Women…Don’t Let History Repeat Itself!

Everyone defines happiness differently, for some people freedom is the ultimate happiness, and one worth fighting for!!

“Independence is happiness. It was we, the people; not we, the white male citizens; nor yet we, the male citizens; but we, the whole people, who formed the Union.”- Susan B. Anthony, suffragette  (A suffragette was a woman who would not suffer being powerless, so she fought for ALL women’s right to vote.)

Susan B. Anthony- abolitionist (fought to abolish slavery and prejudism against African Americans), suffragette (1820-1906)

Working closely with Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Susan B. Anthony was a primary organizer, speaker, and writer for the 19th century women’s rights movement in the United States, especially the first phases of the long struggle for a women’s right to vote, which was called the women’s suffrage movement.

Originally suffragettes began the fight for the rights of black men to vote in equity with white men in 1848 at the Seneca Falls Convention, (and it took 17 years before that happened) when in 1865 the 15th  Amendment was added to the Constitution allowing black men the right to vote.

However, the support did not extend both ways. After another 55 years of fighting for our rights to vote, in 1920 the 19th Amendment was finally added to the Constitution, allowing women the right to vote in equity with both black and white men.(4)(5)

At this time in our history, it’s important to realize just what is at stake. Let’s not let history repeat itself, let’s fight for the right for women to hold equal power and equal rights as men have now enjoyed since before we had the right to vote.

HR5351 Will extend Renewable Energy Tax Credits

Concerned Citizens,

Congress is attempting to pass a bill that will extend tax credits to individuals and businesses investing in renewable energy for the third time. Why should you care?

This time, the funding will not come at the expense of the environment. The bill failed last time because it allowed tax loopholes to be enjoyed by the oil and gas industries.

This time your congresspersons may vote differently, if you call and encourage them to vote “yes” on HR5351. If you are a registered voter, This Means YOU. To take action on behalf of clean energy, Go to: http://capwiz.com/re-action/go/hr5351house

Word for the Day- paho…it’s Hopi for…..

Today our Word for the Day is paho…it’s Hopitu Shinumu for….prayer stick.

A paho is a prayer stick (it’s like a wand, but it has nothing to do with magic). Before each special ceremony of the year, the people involved in the ritual (sometimes it was the whole clan, sometimes only certain members would participate depending on the ritual) would make a prayer stick while mentally preparing for the ritual.

A paho can be made from materials you find around your yard and home; you need two sticks, one a straight stick (representing the male principle of life), the other one a forked stick (representing the female principle of life), and you paint the ends of the male stick black, while painting the ends of the female stick red.

You bind the two sticks together with a blue or black ribbon or thread, then wrap a small amount of corn meal in a piece of either blue, black or red felt (or swatch of material), this represents life and abundance. You attach small bits of jewelry, beads, feathers or decorative items to the bundle with your thread, along with the pouch of corn meal.

While you have been working on your paho, you keep the main reason for the ritual in your mind, praying and blessing the paho and the upcoming energy you will gather and focus to your purpose.

This paho can be used for several rituals, for several years or for just the one time.

May You Never Thirst!
Blessed Beees,
Diane T.

As small business owners we must wear many hats…..

FireWalker Publications Inc Logo

As small business owners we must wear many hats, from the production of the product to promotion and sales for our company.  We learn to be flexible, to grow our skills and teach ourselves what we need to know in order to get on with our day-to-day business.

Sometimes we have to relearn a skill learned in childhood, like writing. Most people first learned to “write” when they were in grade school, now with the computer age anyone can write and self-publish their own materials.

This is commendable, but what about the quality of the writing? One crucial step many small business owners fail to make is to edit their work several times. If one hasn’t gone through a professional writing class or two, perhaps the writer can even use another set of eyes to review their work.

And I don’t mean your best friend, unless they happen to be a professional editor! Sure anyone can “write”, but to write well, you have to understand a bit about putting together sentences, paragraphs and longer constructions, like an article or full length paper. And, you absolutely should revise your article more than once.

In order to write all the copy that is necessary in a business; ad copy,  sales letters, instructions on how to use the product and informative articles, business owners should consider either using professional editing services or should take a class or two on the basics of writing, rather than consider their first or second draft the final copy.

I am offering a writer’s workshop on my business website, where you can have your material professionally edited, including specific notes on your problem writing areas and “How To” articles about writing for publication for only $24.00 per year.

To learn more about the membership, go to http://www.firewalkerpublications.com and click on the Membership link. As an added incentive I’m offering a free gift for the next twenty members!

You will have your choice of either:

1. “Budgeting on a Dime” e-course.

2. A box of healthy Gano Coffee, OR

3. My book “Getting OUT of Limbo- A Self Help Divorce Book for Women.”
