Word for the Week….by the light of the full Harvest Moon

I’ve been wool gathering this morning and I got to thinking about my days as an onychologist (a manicurist), which led me to thinking about the vast amounts of trivia I’ve collected in my brain pan over the years.

For example, have you ever wondered what those half moons at the base of your nails are called? Huh? Huh? Have ya?

Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeel now, laddies and lassies, tis called a lunula, a half crescent shape that looks like a setting moon that you wear at your fingertips!!

And that got me to thinking about an acronym that I learned to remember what nails (or onyx, to be precise) are composed of, and the acronym is COHNS.

COHNS stands for; carbon, oxygen, hydrogen, nitrogen and sulfur, and it is also what our hair is made from!

Thus I give you a spate of new useless verbiage and information that you neither wanted or needed.

I wasn’t a full time writer until I was stricken down with lupus and had to close my company and stop working full time. What could have been a crippling end to a productive life was at first a blow I didn’t think I’d overcome. Then, after struggling several years with lupus, I found that an organic diet and lifestyle helped to partially restore my energy level and health, so that I could start to think about working again.

That’s when I decided to do what I’d always wanted to do. At first, I felt I couldn’t justify letting someone else support me while I launched this new career at the ripe young age of 48!! Then I just allowed it to happen, and it’s wonderful beyond words.

Join us for a touching half-hour of Talk Radio!

Second chances don’t come around that often…or do they? Will you recognize yours when it happens to come knocking on your door? This was the challenge I faced when I was diagnosed with lupus in 2001. What I experienced, my stages of grief and anger and denial, slowly changed to educating myself on what I was up against. Once I got going again, I discovered a new world of diet, health and renewal, but it didn’t happen by itself, and it didn’t happen overnight.

Lesa and I will talk about how to overcome adversity and turn it into a “new” second chance on her radio show “The Odd Mind”. Tune in for a fascinating hour of Talk Radio.

EI Solutions, Pasadena, Calif., and Tioga Energy, San Mateo, Calif., has announced plans to bring solar power to the Phoenix Suns. The companies will install a 194 kW solar system to supply power to the team’s home arena, U.S. Airways Center, which is owned by the city of Phoenix, Arizona.

You see, all the environmental news isn’t gloom and doom, there are some companies and individuals who are willing to make that initial investment into their property, and not only receive monetary savings on their utility bill, but end up helping to clean the air, water and earth.

Enjoy your sunny day!

World Water Wars…have they already begun?

Oceans of Water everywhere, but...To highlight the growing concern over the scarcity of clean water and the need to use renewable energies, Vince Beazel and I will be discussing “Anti-Vigilante and The Rips in Time”, a science fiction novel set in the distant future with its hooks deep into renewable energy and the changing face of the planet.

In my novel, the last War on planet Earth (Terrax) was called “The World Water Wars”. In the last three years, while collecting research for my novel, I’ve documented the increase in violent conflicts worldwide over water.
