Chemical Spills…the toxins we live with

home grown food is the best!

home grown food is the best!

“THE GROWING NEED FOR DETOXIFICATION (reprinted from Dr. David Williams newsletter)

Take a look at the toxic world we live in …

* Mankind has invented no fewer than 10 million new chemicals, approximately 3,500 of which are in your food, with an equal number in your homes and household products.
* Since World War II, nearly 80,000 new synthetic chemicals have been released into the environment.
* Over 350 different pesticides are used on the food we eat.
* Roughly 300 known harmful substances can be found in most blood samples these days.
* The average home contains 3-10 gallons of hazardous materials.
* Detectable levels of dozens of long-lasting synthetic chemicals (e.g., DDT, plasticizers, dioxins, benzene-related solvents) are foud in tissues of all living things on Earth.
* In the US alone, over 4 billion pounds of pesticides are used every year (that’s 8 pounds for every man, woman, and child).
* There are at least 5,000 chemical ingredients in cosmetics.
* Prescription medications are now showing up in our water supply.

from Diane’s Desk:

Our bodies aren’t made to break down and ingest toxins, so the liver and kidneys that clean and maintain our other internal organs can begin to deteriorate due to the unnatural retention of the poisonous substances we pour into them.

Many people are now becoming savvy to the fact that our bodies aren’t a toxic waste dump, and that in order to rid yourself of disease you must first allow your body to do its job unhindered.

Eating organic food simply means the food hasn’t been grown using pesticides that get into the food through the root system and its skin; it also helps to use cleaning agents and cosmetics that don’t contain toxins.

We use Simple Green to clean floors and surfaces, and scrubbing/cleaning agents without toxic surfactants (which pollute the water we end up drinking.)

Which non-toxic products do you use?

The First Minority group remains the poorest…The First (Native) Americans.

The First Minority group remains the poorest…The First (Native) Americans.

We hear little about the poverty, squalor and helplessness of the First Americans…the Native Americans, who are a REAL minority, their numbers seriously dwindling (less than 1% of the US population is comprised of Native Americans).

The Southwest Indian Foundation is a group (of Native Americans) who make and sell beautiful clothes, jewelry, pottery, rugs, books, CDs and other cool gifts. The money you spend is tax deductible, and the profits from this non-profit organization go directly back into helping the Native American community.

One of the big projects they have going on is building houses for the residents of the reservation, who are among the poorest people in America. Native Americans suffer from high unemployment rates, low graduation rates for their high school children, and high levels of alcoholism due to the hard life they live.

Here is a letter from Deacon Dan Nez Martin, explaining the 2009 Housing Assistance Program at the Southwest Indian Foundation in his own words.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ +++++++++++++++++++

“Greetings from the super windy Southwest!

We have vicious winds here today, but we are insulated inside our warehouse where we are building new homes for the “poorest of the poor” in America. The advantages of having this facility is that we can build both outside and inside this manufacturing site, depending on the weather.

We are entering a busy building season where we are going to start 6 new homes. We have 58 families on a waiting list that desperately need a home. We are setting as our goal 30 homes for this coming year. We would do anything to build more homes. We just need the materials and the labor.

These are families that would have no way to have a home without assistance. Won’t you join us in this project? It really is a great thing. A hammer, a small bucket of nails, and a pile of 2 by 6’s go a very long way.

God Bless you a thousand times. Please consider helping us, we would be forever grateful. Have a great springtime.

God Bless You always,
Deacon Dan Nez Martin

Buying from the SWIF either online or from their colorful catalog, you accomplish a triple win…..you are purchasing original, authentic gifts for yourself or a loved one, you are getting a tax deductible receipt for the goods you buy, AND you are helping to employ Native Americans who would otherwise be unemployed!!!

Silenced Women Artists… SPEAK OUT!!!

Speak OUT!

Speak OUT!

********************************************************************************************

I’m very excited about a brand new project I’m involved in with fabulous Blog Talk Radio Show Host Joy Judy Jones. She and I are cooking up a radio show “First Person Portraits of Silenced Women Artists” on

Saturday Feb. 21st at 5pm PST/ 6pm MST/ 7pm CST/ 8pm EST.

Call-in Number: (646) 929-1344

Link to the show: http://www.blogtalkradio.com/Judy-Joy-Jones-Show

It’s a first person presentation of eight virtually unacknowledged women artists who were brilliant sculptors, painters and composers; the contemporaries of such luminaries as Diego Rivera, Auguste Rodin and Mendelssohn, yet are unsatisfactorily unheralded for their contributions to the arts.

Joy Judy Jones, in her own words: “I have worked very hard in promoting opera composer Carla Lucero, a friend. I wrote an opera libretto on the life of painter Frida Kahlo and won a contest and presented part of the opera. Her husband, Diego Rivera (who had all the attention for his art while they lived) is living on because of Frida Kahlo; which is the last scene of our opera.”

We dedicate this first person show to them as a Valentine’s Day gift of love to these emotional, lustrous artists, without whom our world would be a less colorful place.

It IS easy being green!!!

Speaking of EASY…
here’s one easy way you can eat organically and still not suffer chocolate withdrawals.

I’ve made organic double fudge brownies from a mix by Nature’s Path. They use whole grain wheat flour, organic cane juice as a sweetener, and no funky preservatives.

Other incentives to try these brownies:
no trans fats
vegetarian
Non-GMO (Genetically Modified Organisms)
heck, even the box is made from 100% recycled paperboard.

Did I mention they taste chocolaty, are soft and delicious?

YUP, sometimes it IS easy being green!!!

What are some of your favorite organic foods/name brands??

Do Tell!

Energetically Yours, Diane Tegarden

The Storm- lovers poetry for Valentine’s Day

The Storm (Oct 2000)
(dedicated to my husband Wade Webb)

Wind in the trees, whispering invitations
“come with me, pleeeease”
a sigh, then surrender,
she is willing.

The snake is coiled at the base of our souls
we charm her awake, tease her, then rock and roll,
in a riotous moment
we tumble into the storm.

A lightning bolt of energy rushes through my inner core
as the snake rises up and flies away,
reborn, a dragon of the sky.

While we ride the dragon upon that wild wind
we are high above all the demons of earth.

Too soon, we must wend our way back down,
the dragon will alight. We climb down.
Look around, I’ll be with you
in the calm
after
the storm.

I touched death today….diary page 04/26/08

squirrel having a pumpkin party!

squirrel having a pumpkin party

I touched death today
diary page dated April 26th, 2008

I touched death today.

I know, it was “only a brown squirrel”…
a mere rodent, a carrier of fleas,
a flying rat.

But when I walked out my front door and found it laying flattened out,
motionless
eyes opened
ants crawling all over its tiny body,
I broke down.

My dog, who followed me out the front door,
was naturally curious.

She dashed out past me to sniff at it,
perhaps to even chew on it.

I quickly stepped between her teeth and the lifeless form.

My cats were starting to circle around the dead body
wanting in on the play,
without thinking I picked it up by the end of its tail.

Repulsed at having to touch a dead body against my will,
I walked awkwardly to the trash can.

I dropped it once before I got to the trash can and had to pick it up again. I shuddered and forced myself to do it.

Once I had unceremoniously tossed into the trash what used to be a playful little animal filled with life,

I broke down again, blubbering like a child,
begging the Goddess

“no more lessons for today. Oh please, no more.”

I sat in the hot morning sun alone
and cried.
