I was watching old episodes of “All Creatures Great and Small” based on several novels by James Herriot (his pen name). It’s about a veterinarian in England in the mid-1940s and is a fascinating story about country vets.
I noticed that there is a different term for each animal that gives birth, for example:
lions, bears and dogs- whelping
pigs- farrowing
horses- foaling
cows- calving
sheep- lambing
cats- queening
birds- hatching
Does anyone know any other birth terms for animals? If so, feel free to share them here!
