bookshelf with books“I stop to read a bit of the book before I buy it, as is my wont.” Don’t’ worry, wont isn’t a misspelling, it is an old fashioned word that means:

1. accustomed to, used to
2. inclined to, apt to

The etymology of wont: from Middle English woned, wont; from past participle of wonen to dwell, be used t; from Old English wunian; akin to Old High German wonēn to dwell, be used to; from Sanskrit vanoti he strives for. It’s first known use is before the 12th century.
