say this over and over again

american flagI love the sound of words. One of the words that I fell in love when first I heard it is “discombobulate”, which is a verb meaning “to confuse or disconcert; to upset or frustrate.” Here it is, used in a sentence: “The speaker was completely discombobulated by the hecklers.” When I looked it up, I was proud to find it is what is known as an Americanism (score two for learning another new word today!).

The word was first used around 1825-1835, and is an Americanism; the fanciful alteration of discompose or discomfort!!  I enjoy using a variety of online dictionaries; this word’s  meaning came from The Free Dictionary, which also allows you to hear how the word is pronounced…it’s FUN to learn!!!
