What’s a backronym?

Nissan LEAFWhile looking up some information on a Nissan LEAF, I discovered a new word…a backronym! It turns out a backronym (otherwise known as a backwards acronym) is an acronym coined from an existing word or name. For example, wiki is a backronym when used for “what I know is” because wiki is a word whose original meaning is “collaborative website.”
