american flagVictoria Claflin Woodhull (1838-1927) was the first woman to run for the presidency of the United States at the head of the Equal Rights Party against Ulysses S. Grant and Horace Greeley in 1872. Although she didn’t win the election, she went on to build her own newspaper company, and then became the first woman to own a Wall Street investment firm.
