Native American Recognition Day 2015

Native American Heritage Month1This was written by Lona, my sweet Care2 friend from Australia and The Netherlands:

Today is the 48th annual Native American Heritage Month. The story of the native people of the many countries colonized by the Europeans is the same: if they survived complete annihilation by their conquerors, they’ve been reduced to third class citizens, driven off their land, marginalized by society and, more often than not, forced to live in poverty.

Only of late, some of the native people are reclaiming their rightful place in society in America and Australia, giving their ancient roles as protectors of natural resources a new boost by fighting the fossil fuel industries to keep them off their lands. For the Native Americans 2015 has become the year to protect that vital source of life: water.
